Kesennuma Minato Matsuri is a big summer event that the whole Kesennuma City works together to congratulate safety voyage and bumper catch in a large scale. In this two-day festival, the "parade through town" and "Hamarainya Odori (Hamarainya dance)" boost the festival mood on the first day, and traditional drumming groups in various areas of the city, participating in "Uchibayashi Daikyoen (great drumming contest)," show off a wonderful performance alongside the Minatomachi Rinkai road on the second day. At night, a display of fireworks on the seaside is given, and the drumming groups join again the display to entertain people with their drum performance. "Hamarain" is a dialect of Kesennuma, which means "Why won't you join us?"
