"Splash ice" is a phenomenon in which water spray from lakes and oceans adheres to frost-covered trees and freezes in sub-zero environments.
It is a winter feature on the shores of Lake Inawashiro, about 30 minutes by car from Kyukamura Urabandai.
The photo is an image of the previous year.
①The lake does not freeze even in the harshest of winters
②Strong wind blows over the lake
③Plants grow on the lakeshore
Because the conditions for its occurrence are so complex, it is a rare phenomenon even in Japan.
The best time to see them is usually from mid-January to late February, but this year we haven't seen any "splash ice" yet. Is it due to the warm winter mentioned in the news??
When it becomes possible to see "splash ice", we will introduce it on our blog.
looking forward to!
By the way, another winter feature at Lake Inawashiro is the swans!
Approximately 2,000 birds live throughout Lake Inawashiro, arriving from the Russian Arctic around November every year and leaving around March.
There are several places at Lake Inawashiro where you can observe swans, but if you would like to know about recommended spots, please feel free to ask our staff.

This winter, why not use Kyukamura Urabandai as your base and experience the charms of nature at Lake Inawashiro??
