Places to visit in Fukui

今回は福井の魅力を海外の方にも届けたい！という思いから、英語が得意な安江さんにブログを書いていただきました。
いつもとはちょっと違うブログをぜひお楽しみください。

I am a university student from Tokyo that stayed in Fukui during the summer for 2 weeks. During my stay, I visited many sites in Fukui and realized the beauty of nature. In this blog, I would like to talk about 2 places in Fukui that I personally liked and 2 points I recommend about this resort hotel, Kyukamura Echizen Mikuni.

滞在中、福井のあらゆる所を訪れ、自然の美しさに気づく事ができました。

このブログでは福井県のおすすめスポット２箇所と休暇村越前三国の魅力を２点ご紹介したいと思います。）

Tojinbo Cliffs　ー東尋坊

The first place I would like to share is the Tojinbo cliffs.

It is probably the most famous cliff in Japan. The cliffs are about 1 kilometers long and stretch along the Sea of Japan. You cannot tell by the picture, but it was breathtaking. I honestly did not think it would be that magnificent. I went to Tojinbo 2 times during my stay and experienced both sunny and cloudy days. It would be better if you could visit there on a sunny day since tourists can see the blue ocean as well as the beautiful sunset. When I went there on a cloudy day, it had a different kind of atmosphere. The grey clouds made the site mysterious yet beautiful. When you get on the sightseeing boat which sails several times a day, visitors can listen to the fun facts of Tojinbo and Oshima Island (a deserted island near Tojinbo connected to the mainland by a red bridge) by the tourist guide while enjoying the cliffs from a different perspective. The horizon that you can see from the boat is absolutely stunning and makes you realize how small all of your worries are.
（最初に紹介するのは「東尋坊」です。

おそらく日本で最も有名な崖です。その長さは１km。日本海に沿って伸びています。

写真からはあまり伝わりませんが、自分の想像以上に壮大でした。私は滞在中に二度、東尋坊を訪れ、晴れの日と曇りの日どちらも経験しました。できれば晴れの日に訪れて、真っ青な海と美しい夕日を見ていただきたいですが、曇りの日もまた別の神秘的な美しさがあり、綺麗です。

遊楽船に乗ると別の角度から崖を見る事ができます。また、ガイドさんのわかりやすい説明も楽しいです。船から見える水平線はあまりにも美しく、日頃の悩みが全て飛んでいってしまいそうでした。）

Before arriving at the main sightseeing spot, tourists can walk through a shopping street which sells souvenirs and exquisite Fukui cuisine at a reasonable price. Since Fukui is famous for its sweet raw shrimp during the summer and crabs during the winter, I ate sweet shrimp soba noodles on my first visit and crab ramen on my second visit. Both were delicious and I plan to eat it again on my next visit.
（東尋坊を訪れる途中に商店街があるのですが、見たことないお土産が売っていたり、お手頃な価格で福井名物を食べたりする事ができます。福井は夏に甘エビ、冬にカニが名物なので、滞在中に甘エビ天丼やカニ塩ラーメンを食べました。最高においしかったので、次訪れた時も絶対に食べたいです。）

Eiheiji　ー永平寺

The second place I recommend is Eiheiji, located in the north of Fukui. The architecture and the smell of wood made the temple relaxing. Just like the name Eiheiji, which means “temple with eternal peace”, the atmosphere around the temple was incredible. Trees and bushes surrounding the temples, birds chirping, rays of light shining, everything was absolutely perfect. Something else I enjoyed about this temple was that there was a room with 230 ceiling paintings. Each painting was painted in detail on gold canvas. There are 5 paintings which are said to make your dreams come true when you find them. It was fun to look for them as well. If you are looking for a spot to feel Japanese culture, Eiheiji is the perfect spot.
（2つ目のおすすめスポットは「永平寺」です。

建築と木材の匂いが寺の雰囲気を落ち着かせていました。永平寺には「永遠に平和な寺」という意味があるのですが、まさにその通りでした。

永平寺の一番のお気に入りは、230枚の天井画がある部屋です。一つ一つの絵画は金のキャンバスの上に丁寧に描かれています。中には「見つけると願いが叶うと言われている５枚の天井画」があり、探すのも楽しかったです。日本の文化を肌で感じたい方には永平寺がおすすめです。）

Kyukamura　ー休暇村越前三国

Next, I will talk about the appealing points of Kyukamura. First is the buffet on mornings and nights. Visitors can enjoy high quality local food made in the kitchen. I loved the French toast in the morning and sweet raw shrimp at night. What I especially liked about the dining hall was that you can see an incredible sunset. Since Kyukamura is next to the ocean, you can see the sun setting right in front of your eyes on sunny days. I have never seen such a beautiful sunset in my life.
（次に、休暇村越前三国の魅力についてご紹介します。

まずはじめに、朝食・夕食のビュッフェです。

美味しい福井料理を楽しめます。個人的には朝食の「フレンチトースト」と、夕食の「甘エビ」がおすすめです。

レストランから見える夕日は絶景です。

休暇村越前三国は海の近くにあるため、晴れの日は夕日を必ず見るのをおすすめします。）

Second, I will talk about the ice cream swirl sold on the 1st floor of Kyukamura. Almost everyone around me recommended the ice cream sold there so I decided to try it. It was amazing. The cream tasted very rich, almost as if it had just been made from a cow.
（2つ目の魅力は１階に売られているソフトクリームです。色んな方にこのソフトクリームをおすすめされたので、試してみたところ…本当に濃厚で美味しかったです。まるで実際にその場で牛から絞ってきたかのような濃厚さでした。）

Before visiting Fukui, I did not have any impression since I knew nothing about it. After ending my 2-week stay, I realized how wonderful the people are, and how people make an effort to preserve nature. My impression now is that everything here tastes good, especially seafood because Fukui is literally next to the ocean. Another impression I got was that people can enjoy both mountains and oceans in one prefecture which is not a common thing in Japan. Thank you Fukui for 2 weeks and I hope to visit here again in the future!
（福井での2週間の滞在を経て、様々な魅力について知る事ができました。福井料理は何を食べても美味しいです。福井は日本海に面しているので、海鮮が特に最高です。また、福井は海と山どちらも楽しめるのも魅力だと思います。どちらも兼ね揃えている県は珍しいです。福井県よ、2週間本当にお世話になりました。次回訪れた時もよろしくお願いします！）
