Amihari Onsen is located 50 minutes by shuttle bus from Morioka Station.

この敷地は盛岡藩の家老であった北家の屋敷跡であり、庭石の割れ目に桜の種が飛んできて芽を出し、成長とともに石の割れ目を押し広げていったものと言われている。
石は、花崗岩で周囲が21.0m、桜はエドヒガン（花色からシロヒガンともいう）で齢は350～400年と推定される。

現在幹の周囲は、4.6m、高11.0m、枝張りは東西に
16.0m南北に17.1mである。石の割れ目は、北側南側共に少しずつ広がっている
。
大正12年、国の天然記念物に指定され現在に至っている。
