Today i'm in Shimoda City,located in Shizuoka prefecture,japan.
This peaceful and charming street behind me is called perry road.

At first glance,it's looks like a quiet,old fashioned road...
But this place holds a very important story in japanese history.

◆The history of Perry Road -
Perry Road is named after Commodore matthew Perry,a U.S.navel officer who arrived in japan in 1854.
At the time,japan had been closed to the outside world for over 200 years.
Commodore perry came to Shimoda to nagotiate,and this area became one of the first ports opened to foreign countries.
Many historical buildings,warehouses,and inns along this road were used by foreign officials and japanese translators.
walking here feels like stepping back into the EDO PERIOD,where japan's modernization quietly began.

◆The Value and Beauty of Perry Road -
what makes perry road special is not just its history,but also its atmosphere.
Traditional wooden houses
Stone-paved paths
A small canal flowing gently beside the road
Seasonal flowers and willow trees 
 it's a perfect place to slow down,relax,and feel old japan.

◆Why are there fever tourists today?
Even though Perry Road is so meaningful,today we can see that tourist numbers are quite low.
some possible reasons are:
Shimoda is far from big cities like Tokyo
Many tourists focus only on famous places like Kyoto or Osaka
After COVID,smaller towns are still recovering
Lack of promotion on socil media 
Because of this, many shops here are quiet,and the road feels almost forgotten.

◆Why should visit Perry Road -
But honestly,that quietness is what makes this place special.

Less crowds
Beautiful old-town scenery
Then Perry Road in Shimoda is a place you should definitely visit.

Sometimes,the most beautiful places are not the most famous ones.

今日は日本・静岡県下田市に来ています。
私の後ろに見える、この静かで趣のある通りは
**「ペリーロード」**と呼ばれています。
一見すると、昔ながらの静かな小道に見えますが、
この場所には 日本の歴史において非常に重要な物語 が刻まれています。
◆ ペリーロードの歴史
ペリーロードは、アメリカ海軍のマシュー・ペリー提督の名前に由来しています。
1854年、約200年以上にわたり鎖国を続けていた日本に、ペリー提督が来航しました。
彼は開国交渉のために下田を訪れ、
この地は 日本で最初に外国に開かれた港のひとつ となりました。
通り沿いに残る多くの歴史的建物や倉庫、旅館は、
当時、外国の使節や日本人通訳たちによって実際に使われていました。
この道を歩いていると、
日本の近代化が静かに始まった江戸時代 にタイムスリップしたような気分になります。

そのため、多くの店は静かで、
この道は 忘れられた場所のような雰囲気 を持っています。
